The Danville German Society has become more involved in the local Danville community during the past few years.  The following is a timeline of community-minded actions taken by the DGS along with a few other notable events which have occurred the past several years:

October 1999 - DGS enters float in Danville Halloween Parade

October 2000 -
DGS enters float in Danville Halloween Parade; awarded 1st Place in Judges' Award Category

January 20, 2001 - Pork and Sauerkraut Eat-a-Thon/Elk Toss. Fundraiser was not a success but leftovers were donated to the Gatehouse Shelter

July 2001 - DGS enters float in Iron Heritage Festival Parade.

January 26, 2002 - Elk Toss and Winter Festival: $250 raised for the Danville SPCA.

February 22, 2003 -
Elk Toss, Winter Festival, and Charity Auction: $350 raised for the Bloomsburg Women's Center.

July 2003 - Listening Room Created at Priestly-Forsyth Memorial Library in Northumberland; CD Player, Headphones and Local music donated

October 30, 2003 -
DGS enters float in Danville Halloween Parade - awarded 1st Place in Novelty Category ($50 award, later donated to charity)

February 28, 2004 - 
Elk Toss, Winter Festival, and Charity Auction: $450 raised for the Danville SPCA; $50 to the Thomas Beaver Free Library; $75 to a Pine Grove Area HS student; and also collected food for the Danville-Riverside Food Bank

June 6, 2004 - Answered phones for the Childrens Miracle Network Telethon at Geisinger Hospital.

February 26, 2005 -
Elk Toss, Winter Festival, and Charity Auction - $1000 raised for the Thomas Beaver Free Library; $350 raised for the Sidler Hill Cemetery Revitalization Project; and also collected food for the Danville-Riverside Food Bank

February 25, 2006 - Elk Toss, Winter Festival, and Charity Auction - $1850 raised and split between six organizations: $400 for the ClearWater Conservancy; $400 to the Animal Resource Center of Bloomsburg; $400 to the Mooresburg Bicentennial; $400 to the Danville Mining and Manufacturing Museum; $150 to the Montour County Summer Concert Series; $100 to Heart-to-Hand Ministries; and also collected food for the Danville-Riverside Food Bank

February 17, 2007 -
Elk Toss, Winter Festival, and Charity Auction - $1,550 raised and split between six organizations: $300 for the Good Samaritan Fund; $300 to the Northcentral PA Conservancy; $400 to Centre Wildlife Care; $150 to the Montour Summer Concert Series; $300 to Danville family displaced by fire; $100 for Todd Summer's Trip to Germany; and also collected food for the Danville-Riverside Food Bank

February 16, 2008 -
Elk Toss, Winter Festival, and Charity Auction - $2,250 raised and split between six organizations: $500 for Central Susquehanna Opportunities; $500 for the Centre County Youth Services Bureau; $500 for Columbia County Volunteers in Medicine; $500 to Team in Training (for Ryan Zerbe to raise money for Leukemia/Lymphoma); $100 to Montour County Rec Authority, and $150 to Montour County Summer Concert Series; also collected food for the Danville-Riverside Food Bank

February 21, 2009 -
Elk Toss, Winter Festival, and Charity Auction - over $2,300 raised and split between five organizations: $750 for the Gatehouse Shelter in Danville; $600 for the Centre County Women's Resource Center; $600 to the Milagro House in Lancaster; $150 to Montour County Summer Concert Series; and $200 to Heart-to Hand Ministries; also collected food for the Danville-Riverside Food Bank

February 20, 2010 - Elk Toss, Winter Festival, and Charity Auction - over $2,500 raised and split between six organizations: $500 to the Gatehouse Shelter in Danville; $500 to the Daily Item Needy Family Fund, Sunbury, Northumberland, Danville area; $200 to the Montour County Summer Concert Series, Danville; $500 to Deb's House, Lancaster; $400 to the Mount Nittany Conservancy, Centre County; $400 to Centre Grounds, Centre County; and also collected food for the Danville-Riverside Food Bank.

February 26, 2011 - Elk Toss, Winter Festival, and Charity Auction - $2,750 raised and split between six organizations: $750 to the Gatehouse Shelter, Danville; $600 to the State College Area Food Bank; $600 to Compeer Lancaster; $600 to the Ronald McDonald House of Danville; $100 to Liberty Recycling Center; $100 to SOS Children's Villages; and also collected food for the Danville-Riverside Food Bank.

February 25, 2012 - Elk Toss, Winter Festival, and Charity Auction - $2,900 raised and split between five organizations: $1000 to the Gatehouse Shelter, Danville; $400 to AGAPE, Bloomsburg; $500 to the Centre County Women's Resource Center, State College; $500 to Easter Seals of Central Pennsylvania, State College; $500 to Church World Service, Lancaster; and also collected food for the Danville-Riverside Food Bank.

February 16, 2013 -
Elk Toss, Winter Festival, and Charity Auction - $2,539 raised and split between six organizations: $800 to the Gatehouse Shelter, Danville; $500 to Easter Seals of Central Pennsylvania, State College; $500 - Children Deserve a Chance Foundation, Lancaster; $500 - Heart to Hand Ministries, Danville; $100 - HOPE Fund of Penns Valley, Centre Hall; and $139 to the Danville Area Diaper Bank.We collected approximately 2 full shopping carts worth of non-perishable foods for the Danville-Riverside Food Bank and collected almost 800 diapers for the Danville Area Diaper Bank. A pickup truck full of firewood was also collected for the Wagners' neighbor.

February 15, 2014 - Elk Toss, Winter Festival, and Charity Auction - $2000 raised and split between four organizations: $800 to the Gate House, Danville; $500 to the Hope Fund of Penns Valley (Centre County); $500 to the Lancaster County Conservancy Urban Greening program; and $200 to the ClearWater Conservancy (Centre County). We also collected about two grocery carts full of non perishable food that was donated to the Danville-Riverside Food bank. In addition to the money and food, 550 diapers were collected and donated to the Danville Area Diaper Bank.

February 21, 2015 - Elk Toss, Winter Festival, and Charity Auction - $2150 raised and split between four organizations: $1000 to The Gate House, Danville; $500 to Schreiber Pediatric Rehab Center, Lancaster; $400 to The Jared Box Project, Port Matilda; $250 to The Food Bank of the State College Area. The Old Forge Brewing Company also donated $116 to the Gate House based on a portion of their sales during the musical performances by Van Wagner and the Brothers McMonagle.We also donated about two shopping carts worth of food to the Danville-Riverside Food Bank. The Danville Area Diaper Bank also sold peanut butter eggs at the Elk Toss, but the total amount raised is unknown.

February 6, 2016 - Elk Toss, Winter Festival, and Charity Auction - $3000 raised and split between four organizations: $1900 to The Gate House, Danville; $500 to Catholic Worker House, Lancaster; $500 to Easter Seals of Central Pennsylvania, State College; and $150 to HOPE Fund of Penns Valley. We also donated about two shopping carts worth of food to the Danville-Riverside Food Bank.

February 25, 2017 - Elk Toss, Winter Festival, and Charity Auction - $3000 raised and split between five organizations: $1500 to The Gate House, Danville; $600 to the Mount Nittany Conservancy, Centre County; $500 to the Hazleton Integration Project; $300 to Power Packs Project, Lancaster, County, and $100 to HOPE Fund of Penns Valley. We also donated about two shopping carts worth of food to the Danville-Riverside Food Bank. Laundry detergent was also collected for the Good Samaritan Mission in Danville

February 17, 2018 - Elk Toss, Winter Festival, and Charity Auction - $2500 raised and split between three organizations: $1500 to The Gate House, Danville; $500 to the Community Cafe at Saint Andrews Episcopal Church, State College; and $500 to Hayden's House of Healing. We also donated about two shopping carts worth of food to the Danville-Riverside Food Bank. Laundry detergent was also collected for the Good Samaritan Mission in Danville

February 23, 2019 - Elk Toss, Winter Festival, and Charity Auction - $2150 raised and split between four organizations: $1200 to The Gate House, Danville; $300 to the Danville Heritage Festival musical program; $150 to the Community Cafe at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in State College; and $500 to Clearwater Conservancy, Centre County. We also donated about a pickup truck full of food to the Danville-Riverside Food Bank. Laundry detergent was also collected for the Good Samaritan Mission in Danville

February 29, 2020 - Elk Toss, Winter Festival, and Charity Auction - $2969raised and split between four organizations: $2000 to The Gate House, Danville; $500 to the Community Cafe at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in State College; $300 to the House of Care, State College; and $169 to the Danville Diaper Bank. We also donated about a pickup truck full of food to the Danville-Riverside Food Bank. Laundry detergent was also collected for the Good Samaritan Mission in Danville
